At the Airport

Face mask

Face coverings are required for all team members and travelers in the airport – where your trip begins, where it ends and where you connect. A face covering is required in the airport and while flying on American, except for children under 2 years old.

Check-in

Select U.S. travelers can scan their boarding pass at the kiosk to automatically print bag tags.
Commercial-grade plexiglass shields are installed at ticket counters
Floor decals and signage at check-in as a reminder to stay six feet apart.
Passengers can use the American app to check in, pay for your bags, get your boarding pass and watch free shows on your flight.

Hand luggage

Passengers are recommended to reduce their volume of carried hand luggage at this time.

Boarding

To better allow for personal distancing, boarding procedures have been updated so guests board by row numbers in smaller groups from the back to the front.
Self-scan your boarding pass and show your travel document to the boarding agent.
Priority Boarding continues to be offered.
Lounges

Clubs

Clubs are currently open to passengers with limited capacity.
Show your card or scan your boarding pass to enter. Foot-operated devices are being installed on restroom doors in some clubs.
Enjoy packaged snacks, a full-service bar with complimentary and premium beverages, or order from the menu on your mobile device.
Onboard the flight

Face mask

For your well-being and those seated near you, a face covering is required during flight but you can remove it to eat or drink.

Sanitiser

Individual hand-sanitizer wipes are available on board and AA provides Purell branded products in key areas.

Meals & beverages

Food and drink service in the Main Cabin is limited. On some longer flights, snack bags will be available when you board. Passengers are welcome to bring your own snacks and soft drinks.
Additional cleaning and sanitation procedures in catering kitchens including additional sanitation of food prep areas, carts, and catering vehicles.
Cleaning

The aircraft

American Airlines planes receive electrostatic spraying once a week with an EPA-approved disinfectant.
It is one of the first airlines to start treating our planes with SurfaceWise®2, a breakthrough coating that provides enhanced protection by sustained killing of 99.9% of viruses, including coronaviruses, on surfaces.
High-touch and public areas like tray tables, seat belt buckles, armrests, window shades, seatback screens, doors and overhead bin handles continue to be cleaned before every flight.
Arrivals

Deplaning

Upon landing, passengers will need to adhere to the disembarkation instructions as advised by the cabin crew and observe the health and safety measures set by the authorities at the country of destination.
When you land, please keep your face mask on until you have left the airport terminal.
