At the Airport

Customer guidance

Allow extra time at the airport to account for health checks and increased processing time.
Only people who are travelling can enter the airport, unless you have a disability and need assistance to travel.
Ethiopian has temporarily closed all its ticket offices in Ethiopia effective 30 March 2020
Medics stationed at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and carry out continuous health screenings 24/7.

Check-in

Addis Ababa Bole airport check-in desks are regularly disinfected and added spacing stickers on the floor to help everyone maintain a safe distance in the queue.
Ethiopian Airlines intensifies COVID-19 containment efforts, urges customers to use digital options for check-in and booking management.

Boarding

Priority boarding continues to be offered.

Hand baggage

No additional restrictions are placed on hand baggage although limiting the weight and size of this is highly recommended. Crew may not be able to assist with placing items in the overhead bins.

Onboard the flight

Service onboard

Staff will be wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) as they welcome you on the flight.
There are modifications to the services experienced onboard all flights however specific details of this are not listed by the airline. This will involve less passenger-crew contact points.
Hand sanitizer is available in our airports, lounges and on aircraft.
All of Ethiopian aircrafts are equipped with biohazard kits and we have gloves, hand sanitizer and face masks to keep our staff and crew safe.
Cleaning

Our aircraft

Ethiopian has placed its greatest focus on surface cleaning - Ethiopian uses an approved chemical that is proven to kill viruses and germs, leaves a long-lasting protective coating against new contamination of viruses, bacteria and fungi on surfaces.
On all aircraft departing from its hub in Addis, Ethiopian Airlines has implemented enhanced cleaning and complete disinfection of all cabins as a precaution.
The cleaning process includes a comprehensive wipe down of all surfaces – from windows, tray tables, seatback screens, armrests, seats, in-seat controls, panels, air vents and overhead lockers in the cabin, to lavatories, galleys and crew rest areas.
All of Ethiopian’s aircraft are fitted with HEPA cabin air filters which are proven to filter out 99.97% of viruses. They also remove dust, allergens and microbes from the air recirculated into the cabin
Arrivals

Customer guidance

All passengers traveling to Ethiopia MUST present a negative RT PCR test certificate for COVID-19 before boarding a flight. The certificate validity shouldn’t exceed 120 hours on arrival from the date sample is given.
Children less than or equal to 12 years of age are exempted from the RT PCR test certificate requirement.
There shall be no COVID-19 test to be done on arrival at Addis Ababa.
Remember to maintain mask wearing throughout your transit or arrival procedure.
