Santiago de Chile International Airport has been certified as a 4-Star Airport following a detailed quality audit conducted by SKYTRAX, the international air transport rating organisation.

The certification follows a period of substantial change at Chile’s principal international gateway. The opening and continued development of Terminal 2 has introduced a much more modern international passenger experience, while recent upgrades and expansion to Terminal 1 are now bringing a greater level of consistency across the airport.

For passengers, the changes are increasingly visible throughout the journey. Terminal 1 has benefited from new security facilities, upgraded commercial areas, improved seating and refurbished passenger spaces, while Terminal 2 provides a modern and spacious international terminal environment. Together, these developments have created a more cohesive airport experience than was evident in previous SKYTRAX assessments.

Food and beverage has seen particularly noticeable progress, with an improved choice and presentation of outlets, while retail provides a good mix of international brands and Chilean products. Newer terminal areas make good use of natural light and open space, complemented by features such as Plaza de Chile which introduce more local character and a stronger sense of place.

Operationally, Santiago performs well across many of the areas that have a direct day-to-day impact on passengers. Security screening is generally efficient, check-in is well organised and passenger flows are straightforward. The new Terminal 1 security facility has made a significant difference to the domestic departure experience, while baggage delivery, WiFi and passenger assistance services also achieve good standards.

Edward Plaisted, CEO of SKYTRAX, said, “Santiago Airport has changed considerably in recent years, and passengers are now seeing the benefits of investment across both terminals. Terminal 2 represented a major step forward for the international passenger experience, and it is particularly encouraging to see the scale of improvements now being delivered for domestic customers in Terminal 1, including new security facilities, commercial development and wider upgrades to the passenger environment. There is more work to do in areas such as seating, information and accessibility – however, Santiago now provides a good and increasingly consistent 4-Star airport experience.”
