The 2020 Ratings for over 100 Chinese Airports are announced
By Peter Miller, Skytrax
London, UK: Skytrax have today announced the 2020 Airport Rating list for 103 airports in China.
The evaluations were conducted from June 2019 to January 2020, covering small domestic airports through to the major international hub airports in China. There are presently two 5-Star Airports in China, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Haikou Meilan International Airport.
Terminal 2 at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is also in the 5-Star league, being ranked as a 5-Star Terminal. Skytrax report that there are currently 2-3 other airports in China that they possibly expect to reach a 5-Star standard by 2021.
There are presently ten 4-Star Airports in China, with the latest flagship airport, Beijing Daxing International Airport, ranked in this category. Skytrax noted that whilst the design of Beijing Daxing International Airport is very impressive, and the walking distances are quite good for a large airport, the ease of access to and from downtown Beijing is poor. The range of shopping and F&B facilities are also quite limited by major hub standards. It is expected that facility and staff service standards at the airport may improve as more airline operations are moved here.
Among the 60 Chinese airports currently ranked at a 3-Star ranking, Skytrax have identified 6 airports they believe could reach a 4-Star Airport rating within the coming 12 months, subject to certain changes and improvements being made.
There are over 200 airports in China, and Skytrax evaluations focussed on the top 103 airports by customer numbers. The majority are domestic airports, and whilst many carry the title of “international” in the airport name, this often amounts to just a small number of regional routes.
The 2020 China Airport Rating results include:
2-Star Airports = 31 airports
3-Star Airports = 60 airports
4-Star Airports = 10 airports
5-Star Airports = 2 airports
