By Peter Miller, Skytrax – London, UK
The Pearl Lounge at Bahrain International has been Certified as a 5-Star Lounge by the international air transport rating agency Skytrax. The lounge achieves a luxury level akin to a 5-Star hotel.
The Pearl Lounge occupies an area of 2,690 sq m, with seating for 445 customers. It is divided into ten individually crafted areas, each offering a distinct ambience. As at March 2022, parts of the lounge have been closed due to COVID-19 restrictions and limited customer numbers, but in normal times all of the lounge areas will be re-opened.
Hala Bahrain Chairman, Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, said: “Airport lounges are one of the most enjoyable aspects of the travel experience and BAC in collaboration with Hala Bahrain strive to maintain the highest standards at The Pearl Lounge. Offering traditional Bahraini hospitality in a modern setting, the lounge provides an ideal retreat for individuals, groups, business travelers, and families. The warm and welcoming nature of airport employees is the foundation of the travel experience at BIA. Although the lounge’s comfortable facilities and impressive services will leave a lasting impression, we believe the exceptional customer service is what passengers will remember most fondly.”
Edward Plaisted of Skytrax said: “Fashioned on the principles and design of a 5-Star hotel, the Pearl Lounge is finished to a most excellent standard, offering a most luxurious and relaxing ambience where customers can easily forget they are in an international airport. The lounge décor and furnishings are at a truly exceptional standard, offering a great variety of options, and access to power / charging facilities is available throughout the lounge. This is certainly one of world’s finest airport / independently operated lounges in today’s market.”
From reception one can proceed to the Central Room with a variety of comfortable armchairs and sofas, or go to the Majlis, an Arabic word describing where guests and friends are greeted. The Parlor adjacent to this offers an all-day breakfast and afternoon tea service, provided in a luxurious style.
The Drawing room has an extensive choice of seating options, and to the side of this is the Library where a staffed bar serves wines, beers, cocktails and other beverages. A Family Zone and Games Lounge is located to one side of the lounge.
The Forno Italian live kitchen section provides freshly cooked pizza and pasta options, whilst the Tasting Room has a wide range of hot and cold buffets, and an a la carte dining area.
Two well equipped shower rooms are available, including Elemis shower amenities. Lounge guests also have direct lift access to the Bahrain Airport Transit Hotel which offers a wide choice of bedroom facilities and the 5 star spa service operated by Gulf Spa.
The Pearl Lounge also achieved the 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Lounge Safety rating, which certifies the safety and hygiene measures in the lounge are meeting the highest standards, and delivering enhanced safety levels for customers and staff.
The lounge rating is applied following detailed inspections and professional analysis and appraisal of quality standards by the Skytrax audit team, typically covering over 250 areas of product and service analysis.
